Sampans, Ap Lei Chau 鴨脷洲舢舨

As much a Hong Kong icon as Victoria Peak or dim sum, the diminutive sampan (its name derived from three planks, implying small) is recognisable the world over even by those who have never actually seen the real thing. Unlike the ancient sailing junks, hundreds of sampans still ply the waters of Hong Kong, serving as ferries taking passengers to their destinations.
